In yet another strategic social welfare support initiative, AU Charitable Trust has registered u3a Aluva to provide useful engagement for senior citizens during day time by providing a serene, relaxed atmosphere to spend their day time actively pursuing their areas of interest. Located on the banks of Periyar at Aluva, with natural scenic beauty, suitable for senior parents of IT/Infopark professionals, having offices at Kakanad or Seaport Airport Road.
The Third age:
The ‘Third Age’ is described as ‘the period of time after the First Age of childhood dependence and the Second Age of full time employment and parental responsibility’.
1972:
The French U3A’s from the outset were linked to Universities and remain so to this day. It all started at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Toulouse in 1973, by Professor Pierre Vellas. Worldwide, u3a has a presence in lot of countries.
1982:
The UK u3a movement formed (based loosely on the French model) to encourage groups of people no longer in full-time work to come together and continue their enjoyment of learning subjects of interest to them. In UK, there are 1,035 u3a units with nearly 400,000 members; membership costs less than £20 on average per year and is open to everyone who’s not working full- time.
Our story
2003:
Artistes Unlimited (AU) was founded for young budding artistes at Delhi to collaborate, converge and create a non-competitive fine arts platform. AU – a 230 member-powerful homogenous group movement empowered hundreds of youth to choose performing arts as a career option. Many have reached pinnacle in their careers. In June 2006, it became Artistes Unlimited Charitable Trust (AUCT). On Dec 22, 2006 Trust received 12A, and 80G certification, which are all currently valid along with CSR1 accreditation.
2023:
A metamorphosis of sorts, after 20 years, AU Charitable Trust is now promoting a movement – u3a Aluva, based on a UK-wide movement of locally-run interest groups, which aims to encourage groups of people who are no longer in full-time work to come together and continue their enjoyment of learning subjects of interest to them. It shall provide a wide range of opportunities to members to come together to learn for fun. Members can explore new ideas, skills and activities together and feel the immense power of collective participation and fellowship. That shall be the core fundamental philosophy at u3a Aluva.
Membership
Membership of u3a Aluva:
Joining Fee shall be only Rs1,999/annum. It’s all voluntary; typically a safe and secure home to many activity groups covering hundreds of different subjects – from art to social engineering and/or to everything in between. u3a Aluva is expected to have members without any age limit, who are no longer in full-time employment or raising a family. They draw upon their knowledge and experience and passion to be associated with worthy causes for their own contemporaries. Share N Care India Daycare Homes shall become an enabler for elderly to spend their day time respectably, affordably, comfortably, sharing meals with people of similar age groups, learn, laugh with each other and have fun to lead a happy, contended life at a common home away from home. It will also be a daily meeting place to play games, read library books and exchange views, ideas and information over Tea/Coffee. Members may teach and learn from each other but there are no qualifications to pass – it is just for pleasure. Learning has its own reward. From the start, the guiding principles shall be to promote close friendship, fellowship, companionship via day to day collective interactions, joint DIY projects in horticulture, non-formal learning through self-help interest groups covering a wide range of topics and activities as chosen by each member. Our founders envisage a collaborative, caring, and sharing approach with peers learning from each other not towards qualifications but learning purely for pleasure. There would be no distinction between the learners and the teachers – everyone could take a turn at being both, if they so wished with convergence of ideas.
Governance and reporting:
The India Third Age Trust – an integral part of AU Charitable Trust – to become a part of AUCT Income Tax exemptions . Trust may provide guidelines for pan India propagation, administrative and branding support to new u3a unit(s) in other parts of India. Board of Trustees shall hold an Annual General Meeting attended by all subscribing members. Issues affecting the whole movement shall be discussed and deliberated as well as any resolutions as necessary shall be adopted. Annual Report & Audited Accounts shall be presented at Annual General Meeting by Trustees.
